I’m Back! (I hope!) With 2024 Goals

Hi there!

Welcome to A Wise Woman in Progress. I can’t believe that it has been an entire year since I sat down to share anything on this blog. I know I had big dreams of writing and posting and all the things but truth be told 2023 kinda just kicked my behind. I struggled so much with finding my place in the world and I just couldn’t bring myself to figure out how to put it all into words. And I’ll be 100% honest when I say I still haven’t managed to figure it all out, but hey, here’s to better outlooks and brighter days.

So with all that here we are in 2024 and it’s time to lean into some new goals so I figured what better way to dive back into sharing my life with the world than to discuss some of the goals I have set for myself for the year. So here it goes:

Health and Wellness

2023 saw me finally become consistent with my health and wellness journey. I joined Weight Watcher and our local Planet Fitness and I became serious about working toward being a better version of me. It helps that Dusty decided to come along on the journey completely with me this time and we are both using the WW program as well as going to the gym together. It also helps that our kids are old enough that they are able to be a bit more independent when it comes to various activities so we are able to get to the gym more consistently.

So on that same line my goals in this area of my life are:

  • Consistent logging with WW online
  • Hitting the gym 3-5 days/week
  • Walking the dog (oh yeah! We got a dog!) on the days I don’t go to the gym
  • Completing at least 1 but possibly 2 rounds of 75 MOM (a habit development program which includes gym time, healthy eating, consistent household management, reading, and basic self care)
  • Learn to love the body I’m in no matter what the size reads on the clothing I wear

I feel like all these goals are relatively do able for me so keep an eye out for some progress updates along the way.

HomeMaking

If you know anything about me, you know that homemaking is kind of a big deal to me. I mean it’s basically what I got a Master’s degree in! However, I will be honest when I say that I have let my home management fall by the wayside the last year. My house isn’t like unlivable or anything like that, its just cluttered and messy so I’m hoping to change that this year. My goals for my home in 2024 are:

  • Be consistent with my family chore chart and rotation.
  • Create morning and evening routines that aid in home management
  • Menu plan and meal prep weekly
  • Declutter problem areas and begin to remodel our front bathroom that has been just storage for the last 4 years.
  • Fold the laundry straight out of the dryer.

Homemaking is something I really need to get myself back into the swing of and hopefully this will get me going.

Personal Growth

So this year’s personal growth goals are going to be…challenging. Why is that, you ask? Well, because I made the grand decision that I should go back to school this year and in February I will begin my first doctoral seminar. I am terrified. But I’m also excited to take on this new challenge. So here are a few personal growth goals:

  • Begin my doctoral work strong and focused
  • Start each day with bible study/quiet time before the gym
  • Read books that aren’t just for school, but also for enjoyment
  • Write here on my blog once a week and restart my “tea of the day” videos with more than just what I’m drinking but actual discussion type topics.

Personal growth and self care type goals have always been a struggle for me because I have a hard time focusing on myself and not feeling selfish about it. But I’m working on changing that. So let’s see how that goes this year.

Marriage

I haven’t ever really thought about setting goals for my marriage before but after some rough conversations we had this past year, paired with the busy season we are in I think it’s going to be important to really be intentional on making our marriage a priority this year. So here are a couple goals I have for that:

  • Date nights 2 times a month
  • Spend time just talking about life and things each day without screens on to distract
  • Intentional intimacy.
  • Spend more time “toes to toes”

Now that the kids are getting older it’s nice to be able to see how some of these will actually be able to be a priority this year and that has me excited.

Homeschooling

This year’s schooling is going to look a lot different from years past. This year the kids will be doing things a bit more independently and I will be able to just guide and direct, with the exception of the 1st grader and the kindergartener. But that doesn’t mean that we don’t have goals to work toward so, here we go:

  • Start school by 9 AM with Bible
  • Check work and record grades daily
  • File away papers that have been completely each day by the end of the day
  • Library trips each week or every other week.
  • Complete a year of “Bookopoly”
  • Help each kid gain more ownership and independence in their own learning.

I will share more about our school plans next week but for now those are the goals.

Parenting

It may seem like I just covered some of this with homeschooling above but I wanted to be intentional this year about separating school from other parenting activities. So I decided to set some goals within my parenting journey that aren’t really school related this year:

  • Schedule one on one dates with each of the kids once a month. One for myself and one for Dusty.
  • Read at least 4 nights a week before bed together.
  • Spend less time with screens and more time face to face
  • Be open and available for them when they need me

Parenting goals are kind of a challenge for me to come up but I am hoping this is a decent start.

So there they are. The basics of my goals for 2024. I’m excited to see what this new year brings and I’m looking forward to looking back in 12 months and seeing how far (or not) I came.

So, now it’s your turn. What are some goals you have for 2024? Share them in the comments!

  1. You are a wise woman in progress. I loved hearing about your goals in each category of life. Do you have an accountability partner? A friend and I have been sharing our goals for the last couple of years and check in on each other throughout the year. It has helped both of us so much. Yay, WW, I started right before the holidays. Isn’t it so nice when the kids get older, and you can have more freedom to exercise and even spend time with your husband? Certainly one of the perks. May God bless your year.
