I had some really good intentions of writing some fun and festive posts all this month. I even took the time to write out topics and titles in my planner so I would know exactly what I would be writing about each day.
I even went as far as to write several posts and have them ready to post on a schedule. And then life happened. As it tends to do. I ran out of all my pre-written posts and I found myself fighting for time to sit down and get ahead once again.
So yesterday the Blogmas day 9 post just didn’t get done. Why you ask?
Well, lets start with the fact that I had ZERO VIPKid classes booked to teach yesterday morning. While on one hand that is great because it gave me a day I didn’t have to get up out of bed at 3:30 in the morning it also meant that I slept in way later than I had planned. My ultimate goal was to still be up by between 6 and 6:30 when the dogs in the house started fussing to go outside.
Well, problem with that is that my mom got up and got them out before I even knew what was happening. Top that off with the fact that the kids were not up at the crack of dawn as they normally are, I just didn’t get my behind out of bed when I should have.
This also meant that I did not have my act together when it came to having lessons planned for the week for the kids. While the curriculum is designed as an “Open and Teach” style curriculum I still have worksheets to print, math lessons to prepare, and things of that nature to have ready to go. Monday is also library day so starting of the day behind the ball meant the whole day was lagging.
Once we finally managed to get through the trip to the library, the quick stop at the shop, home for lunch and to finish school lessons I was wiped. I shouldn’t have been considering I slept until almost 8 AM but I just found myself unable to keep my eyes open. This lead to an hour nap in the den while the kids watches some form of obnoxious show on YouTube of some random person playing video games. ( Side note: I really do not understand the love of watching people play video games on the internet. But I guess that is a rant for another day and time.)
Once I finally forced myself to wake up and get off the couch it was time to get one kid to her Lego League team practice the go home and fix dinner. It wasn’t until I was in the process of washing the dishes (oh, did I mention the dishwasher is on the fritz and the guy who can fix it is smack dab in the middle of finals at the moment and is what we call unavailable) that I noticed there was a HUGE leak coming from somewhere under the sink. Ok, truth be told I didn’t notice it. It took the two year old walking into the kitchen and seeing the giant puddle in the middle of the floor and FREAKING OUT that I noticed what was happening. This led to my mom and I down cleaning out from under the sink to figure out first of all where the heck the water was coming from and then how to stop it from leaking. We finally made the decision to start with clearing out the pipes and see what happens the next day.
I rounded the day out with digging through the still packed boxes to attempt to find our Christmas decorations. We thought that it would be fun to give the kids the opportunity to decorate Grandma’s house with their Christmas decor. (Yes, I am aware that it is December 10th and we still don’t have our decorations up. We are lucky to have food on the table most days.)
So by the time I finally managed to get the kids to bed and put myself in bed I was toast. Just as I was beginning to wind myself down for the night I received a panicked phone call because time zones suck and confuse people which lead to Dusty realizing the paper he has been working so hard to get finished is in fact late and he wasn’t sure how he was going to rebound from this set back. After a 30 minute conversation helping him to focus and get a game plan I was finally in a position to be able to go to bed. And that is when my brain decided to not shut off. So I finally managed to fall asleep somewhere around midnight.
Monday had a sever case of the Monday’s and it showed. As much I would have liked to get a post up and continue to stay on track with everything sometimes it’s just not in the cards. And one of the things I have learned over the course of the last 6 months of so is that it is okay. What it means is that when a day like my day yesterday happens you just have to ride through it and then work to get back on track the next day. Sure, the sink may still be not working great and I may have not gotten through the day’s lessons as quickly as I would have liked again today BUT I am here and I am doing my best and that is all I can as of myself or anyone else. After all, I wouldn’t be “A Wise Woman in Progress” if I already had everything figured out now would I?
So if you read this whole thing and made it to this point THANK YOU for reading and giving me a chance to get my stress off my chest. Stop back by tomorrow where we will jump back on the “Blogmas” train with a list of some of my favorite holiday treats.
See you tomorrow, lovelies!
What a day! I think you have the right solution – just jump back in where you can. I’m also learning that with three littles of my own. I hope you can make a cake soon. Tea and cake!
